Need a new hiking backpack?
On this #GearItUpTuesday, I review my women’s Osprey Sirrus 24 Pack.
I upgraded my backpack last year prior to my Utah trip. After much deliberation, I decided on the women’s Osprey Sirrus 24 Pack. It is a daypack, and so far has met all of my hiking needs. I have owned this pack for over a year, use it on every hike, and have been pleasantly surprised. When I wear this pack, I don’t have back pain, sore shoulders, or a sweaty back. The ventilated back panel keeps my back comfortable, no matter the temperature. The summit blue color is quite pretty, and I won’t lie – I love it.
I bought my backpack at REI, which I highly recommend. The friendly and knowledgeable staff helps you find the right pack, and shows you how to make adjustments for the most comfortable fit. They also have weighted sandbags so you can get an idea of how the pack will feel on an actual hike when you have your gear and necessities packed inside. Just another reason we love REI.
- Ventilated, mesh-back panel–one of my favorite features.
- Adjustable shoulder harness, and hipbelt prevents muscle fatigue, and keeps the belt on your hips, where you want it.
- Internal frame keeps the packs’ shape.
- Internal sleeve and velcro strap accommodates a water reservoir, with shoulder strap attachment.
- Plenty of pockets to keep your hiking essentials organized and easy to locate on your trek.
- Hiking pole and snow axe attachment.
- Rain cover, which I haven’t used yet.
- Durable material.
What Would I Change?
There are some features I would change, one of which is the hiking pole attachment, which is tricky to get to on your own. Most of the time Jeremy takes the hiking poles out and puts them back in so I don’t have to take the pack off to reach them, which is sometimes inconvenient.
The 24 liter size could be slightly larger. If I put a jacket in the main compartment, it fills a lot of room. It would be great to have two large compartments to stow a jacket and other essentials, especially when layering.
Despite these two things, this is the best hiking backpack I have every owned. It is comfortable, has lots of compartments, is easy to adjust, and fits my current needs. I would definitely purchase an Osprey again. When we eventually go on longer, overnight hiking trips, I will upgrade to a larger backpack.
The Osprey company has humble beginnings, and has been around for 40 years. All of their backpacks are backed by the Osprey All Mighty Guarantee, which states:
Osprey will repair any damage or defect for any reason free of charge – whether it was purchased in 1974 or yesterday. If we are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, we will happily replace it. We proudly stand behind this guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.
The Osprey Sirrus 24 pack that I bought is now on clearance at REI. They have a new women’s Osprey Sirrus 24 Pack.
