What did you do today? We ditched Black Friday, and decided instead to #OptOutside. We put on our hiking boots, took our dog, and headed to Heritage Park, a local Lima, Ohio park. We have a new tradition. In the entire time we were at the park, we saw a total of 7 other people. It felt like we had the park all to ourselves.
While we could hear the sound of traffic faintly in the distance, we embraced the sounds of nature – birds chittering at each other, leaves crunching under our feet, and an occasional sniffle of my nose. (Did I mention it was a bit chilly?)
I will take the sounds of nature over the juxtaposition of screaming, frenzied shoppers any day of the year. Penny, our dog, loved getting out, and it also got some of her extra energy out. We took some cool pictures, found a cool grove to explore where we saw animal tracks, and animal paths through the fields.
Once we got home, we were listening to the news, and heard heart rendering stories of Black Friday chaos. I hope the people that were injured and hurt, recover. Here is to hoping that more people #OptOutside, and #TakeTheRoadLessTraveled. Adventure awaits. ‘Til next year, I hope you discover that #HikingIsFun!
